RE: Highway 101 in northern ca

I live in the San Francicso bay area and have traveled up and down HWY 101. You'll not have any problems expect for poor roads (lot's of pot holes)quality if you stay in the slow lanes because of all the trucks that use HWY 101 daily. The good news is that this condition is happen only around large cities. Good luck and I hope you enjoy your travels on HWY 101.

When's the right time to check the engine oil level?

Do I check it cold (before starting it in the morning, warm or do I need to wait approx 1 hour after a trip to ensure the oil drains into the engine oil pan. The reason for asking is that I just turned 6000 mile on my 2007 National Tropi-Cal LX T370 with a CAT C7 and I had it's last oil change at 4500 miles which was done about 6 months ago. I checked the oil 15 minute after the end of our last trip and it showed that I was down 2 quarts. I rechecked the engine oil 1 hour after shutting the engine down and it did improve a little bit.
I just checked it again (which is the next day) and I noticed not improvement. I did crawl under my RV and I did not notice any leaks and I'm not blowing any white smoke or blowing any large amount out the rear blow tube. Is that usage normal? Can I add the needed oil without warming up the oil? Any help I can get would be great.
Thanks

RE: Alfa Leisure shuts its doors

recurry
I also live in Pleasanton and store our DP at the fairgrounds. Is the show worth going to?
Thanks

Alfa Leisure had a reputation for exceptional quality and workmanship.
Funny, we just happened to stop by a small RV show at the fairgrounds near our home and they had 4 or 5 class A DP Alfa motorhomes mixed among a bunch of 5th wheels. We walked through several of them and I was struck by a couple things. First was that they were rather innovative - especially on floor plans and also how they used external storage. The second thing that struck me is, while they looked luxurious at first glance the cheapness of the materials quickly showed through . Particularly the walls and imitation woodwork.
Unfortunately, there are a lot of choices in the strata of class A DP's that Alfa occupied. Fleetwood is right in there with them as well as Tiffen, Winni, Damon, (and National) etc. It's a broad field. State of CA does just about everything possible to make companies based here less competitive. It's no surprise the Ca based companies are going first because they are always running closer to the edge due to the cost to do business here. It's a tough place to run a company of any type here let alone a manufacturing company

RE: US Gear brake system and Chevy HHR

Jim:
I just had mine installed this weekend. Yes I agree the size of the unit that's mounted inside the car is the size of soda can or a bottle of water. Mind RV is a 2007 National Tropic-Cal LX T370 on a Freightliner chassic that was already pre-wired for this unit. I'm very pleased with the unit and it works great. I founded out directly from US Gear that the best place to buy this unit was from PPL Motorhomes in Houston, Texas. I paid ~$800 for model #UTB-1000 which is the model that includes everything needed for the car as well as for a non per-wired RV. Good Luck.

Diesel Fueling in Arizona

Question: I've just heard that Arizona is inforcing a .18/per gallon or $1000.00 fine if you fuel up using the wrong pumps.
The warning was seen posted at a Flying J (at he RV pumps) in Arizona by the ADOT - Motor Vehicle Division:
WARNING
Fuel dispensed from this pump can only be placed directly into the fuel tank of the following vehicle types:
Less than 3 axles, and
Declared Gross Vehicle Weight under 26,001 LBS, or
Exempt under ARS 28-5432 (school buses, government and non-profit)
DO NOT dispense fuel from this pump into a bulk storage tank, or the fuel tank of the following vehicles:
3 or more axles, and/or
Declared Gross Vehicle Weight of more than 26,000 LBS
The fine is .18/cent per gallon or $1000.00 whichever is greater. For a second offense it could be double the fine. What I take this to mean is that most of us Diesel Class A RV's have a Delared Gross Vehicle Weight of over 26,000 LBS an we'll have to fill up at truck stops or at the truck pumps at Flying J.
Does anyone know why Arizona has posted this warning and fine?
Thanks

RE: A&E Weatherpro problems

I'm having the same problem on my 2007 National Tropi-Cal LX. On my first trip out I thought I'd try my automatic awning. I flipped the switch (hearing nothing but beeping) and about 30-60 seconds later the awning rolled up. I took it back to the dealership and they told me I needed a Printed Circuit board. Well the deal called the manufacture to only find that it was on back order with no idea of any due date. I then called the coach manufacture (National) to find out that you could no longer just get the printed circuit board you had to get a awning kit which included and new roof sensor, new wire harness and new controller box. Well after having to deal with this problem for the last 90 days it looks like on the 20th I'll have a new awning kit installed. Do anyone know if A & E is know for problems with their automatic wind sensors?
Thanks
